Finding Roots & Wings is a Multimedia Storytelling Project that facilitates communication with and between displaced women as they seek to rebuild their lives.

By making space for people to have ownership and agency of their own stories, is one of the most powerful ways to promote healing is uncovered. Our workshops provide safe environments for healing moments to come through storytelling.

Healing through Storytelling: Wonderful surprises come from connecting person to person, woman to woman and story to story.

Refugee women in Nairobi created a promotional multimedia piece illustrating traditional crafts from home. The workshops are designed to not only share ideas and skills of multimedia promotion and storytelling, but also to find a way to facilitate communication.

"Cross Cultural, Cross Generational Female Storytelling" in Tibetan Areas of China: Qinghai Workshops with Pentok Institute trained young women ages 8-17 to document themselves with an intention of intergenerational positive female interactions and to create memories with each other. Without using much language, we put together a multimedia project about their time at the camp, incorporating portraits that we did as a message to their future selves. A time capsule.

Red : "I don't know, maybe there is more in front of me--that I'm gonna get to learn, more and more. This is not the end of the world and this is not the only place that I am gonna get to see. There are so many places.."

Strength from Within : Open hands show strength in community and extending one is an expression of connection. It is important to remain sensitive to anonymity requests and allow people to present themselves as they wish gives way to building a rapport than can be developed to stay connected over time.

Cooking Tools : Improv. When making a home-cooked meal away from home, it can be hard to find all of the utensils you are used to. But, Farhiya has a special talent for repurposing what she finds in the kitchen.
